COURSE GOALSWithin each of these general goals, specific learning objectives will be outlined for each chapter to adhere to these course objectives:

($5) Also available through: Jeannemarie_wallace@ncsu.edu Examinations For Distance Learning StudentsAll exams will be short answer or multiple choice. They must be completed "closed book", that is without the use of notes or books. The exams will be mailed to an organization that is located as close to the students as practicable. All organizations must be approved in advance by the instructor. Suitable organizations include local universities, technical colleges, extension offices, or local schools. Once completed, the exams will be mailed to the instructors for grading. Graduate ProjectStudents enrolled in SSC 570 must complete a term paper or a group project on a topic related to wetlands. The paper should be about 20 pages long (including figures and tables). The topic selected can be related to your graduate work, possibly being a portion of the literature review for the thesis or dissertation. The topic should be approved by one of the instructors. Group projects will be overseen by Dr. Broome. The term paper or project is due before the final exam and will count 10% of the final grade. Field Trips--For Students Attending Class At NCSUTwo field trips will be taken on Saturdays. These will be required and will count a total of 5% of the final grade. Only exceptions will be those officially excused absences recognized by university policy. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will provide transportation to and from field trips, and students are encouraged to use it. The university assumes no responsibility for mishaps that occur when students provide their own transportation. HomeworkFor Distance Learning Students Special homework problems will be assigned to DISTANCE LEARNING STUDENTS which will count 5% of the final grade. This grade will be used in lieu of the field trip. Distance learning students may attend the regular field trips if space permits and permission of the instructor is received at least one week prior to the field trip. Grading
***Students enrolled in SSC-470 have the option of completing a project. Those electing to do so will have their grades determined using the weighting scale shown for SSC-570 Exam ProctorDistance learning students will have to identify a place to take their exams as well as a person to whom the exam will be sent, who will monitor the exam as well as mail it back to the instructor for grading. The place and person may be found at the place of employment, or be at a community college, extension center, local school, church, etc. Arrangements must be made and the instructor notified at least two weeks prior to the first exam. AuditsStudents auditing the course must attend all lectures and field trips, complete the term paper (for SSC 570), as well as take all exams in order to receive an "AU" grade for the course. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements will force the instructor to assign a grade of "NR" according to University policy. Make-up Work, Late Assignments, and Incomplete Grades Field trips cannot be made up. Exams can be made up for students with officially excused absences. The format of the exam will be left to the discretion of the instructor. Late assignments will be graded and the score will be reduced by 10% for each day late. Incomplete grades will be assigned as dictated by university Final grades will be assigned as follows A+:97 - 100% Academic Integrity The Instructors will uphold the Code of Student Conduct,
and the University's policies on Academic Integrity. They expect that
students have read and understand the "Code", particularly the definitions
and examples of "Cheating", "Plagiarizing", and "Aiding and Abetting Others
to Cheat or Plagiarize". Students caught cheating on exams or the term
paper (plagiarizing) will receive a zero for that portion of the course.
University procedures for reporting cheating will be followed. It is the Instructors' understanding and expectation that each student's signature on any test or assignment means that the student neither gave nor received unauthorized aid. Attendance Policy--Resident StudentsStudents are expected to attend all lectures and the field trips. It is the student's responsibility to see the instructor and collect all handouts and assignments that were missed due to absence. Students meeting the requirements for "Excused Absence" will be allowed to make-up the missed exams and assignments. Students whose absence is not excused will be allowed to make-up the missed exams and assignments but will be penalized by having 10% of the grade deducted for each day the exam/assignment is late.
